I had high hopes for this book but it unfortunately left me rather disappointed. Tootoo had the opportunity to open up about his personal life including his brother's suicide and his substance abuse issues. The book, however, for the most part is TooToo rambling on about girls, hockey, etc. It's probably the least organized writing I've ever read. He repeats several thoughts multiple times interjecting the F word every other sentence. He goes on about how he didn't need to be in AA, was too good for the AHL, etc. He never really digs in to anything substantial. Overall the book had huge potential and fell flat. It's not a very good read and I wouldn't suggest it at all.

Jordin Tootoo is my favorite hockey player and is a role model for children and adults everywhere. This book was so easy to read that I felt that he was talking directly to me. As a counselor who works in the mental health and addictions field, this was absolutely inspiring and touching. This book clearly demonstrates how our upbringing plays a major role in who we are in our adulthood. This book shows Tootoo's absolute dedication and hard work in not only his professional life as a hockey player, but also his personal life.This is an absolutely must read for anyone (even if you don't like hockey)!

Hockey Player Jordin Tootoo writes like he is having a conversation with the reader, which draws one vicariously into his life experiences. Really enjoyed learning about the Inuk Community or First Nations of Canada plus the narrative by Sports Author Mr. Stephen Brunt. Whereas I can't relate personally to Jordin's history of alcohol issues, I can as a Registered Nurse in Public Health. Thus his story serves as an inspiration for others who struggle like Jordin so honestly writes about. I also recommend Jordin's book for issues I can relate to, being called out for being of mixed diversity and surviving the painful suicide of a beloved sibling. If you are struggling or want to understand the mindset to overcome struggles in life with positivity and raw honesty, then Jordin TooToo's book is an all inspiring must read for you!

An interesting perspective. I chose this book to learn about how a person from such a different upbringing made it into pro sports, and that is exactly what I got. What a wild ride. Brutally honest, funny at times, but sad and reflective as well. Quick read, too.

Jordin Tootoo's writing is so candid and honest that at times it crushed my heart. I read this book a month ago and I still feel the ghosts of emotion it evoked hovering around me whenever I think about it. There's no "tell all", no salacious stories, no bravado - it's just a story about a man who quite honestly has made it much further in life than probably anyone would have expected. His candor, fortitude and courage are to be admired and honored. I sincerely could not put the book down once I started it.

It's been a long time since I've read an autobiography and been unable to put it down. This is written in what I can only assume is the same way Jordin Tootoo talks and it's a very "easy" read accordingly. It's not truly easy, in that it talks about his struggles and his recovery (and it is his and he doesn't try to push his recovery as The Way and explicitly states that what works for him isn't going to work for others, but he does want to put it out there anyway). If you are a fan of hockey, a fan of Inuk/Nunavut culture or if you or your loved one is struggling with alcoholism, this is a book that'll make you laugh, cry and secretly wonder how many other people have similar stories in both real life and sports.

Jordin and Terrance Tootoo were a big part of our local hockey team at the start of the club. OCN Blizzard have retired Terrance's number 22 since his passing. Like any small town we are proud of where Jordin is today and the care he has taken in his life to feel peace and happiness. The book gives a glimpse into Jordins' journey to become the person and player he is today. It was a great read and happy to see the love he feels for his brother. Great job Jordin.

Clearly Tootoo has had a traumatic life & has made the most of it, truly managing to thrive, not just survive, despite his obstacles. A wonderful read, for hockey lovers and others alike.

I thought the book was well written and the author obviously has an extensive background in food science. In a nutshell - her eating plan is high protein, low carb, moderate fat. No gluten, no dairy, no sugar, no soy, no processed food. Her philosophy is that in order to keep blood sugar levels stable throughout the day, she recommendeds 3 meals per day and ideally no snacks. Each meal contains a "Fab Four" ingredient- protein, fat, fiber and greens. Fruit is limited to 1/4-1/2 cup of berries per day. All other fruits may be eaten once or twice a week. - again only a very small portion of 1/2 cup or less. Grains are limited to gluten free and only 1/4 - 1/2 cup per day at most. Breakfast is essentially a protein shake made with water or nut milk with the addition of 1-2 Tbsps of fat (MCT oil, coconut oil, nuts or avocado), and 1-2 Tbsps of fiber (chia seeds, flax, avocado), and a handful of greens such as spinach.Will you lose weight, feel good, and be healthy eating like this? Yes - most likely! However, it is pretty restrictive and requires a lot of discipline.

The book as a whole was OK. It was a bit repetitive...alright, it was a lot repetitive. I think the entire book could have been summed up in an article, not so much an entire book. I ended up skipping paragraphs and certain pages here and there just to get through it all. I did, however, really enjoy the science aspect of knowing how the body reacts to certain foods. I’m intrigued to see if the “Fab Four” smoothies really work as well as she constantly insists they will. Wish me luck!

Stop counting calories and read this book. All I have done is used her formula for a balanced meal and incorporated her smoothies for my breakfast and I have never felt better and I have lost 17 lbs in 3 weeks. I am satisfied with my meals. I don't feel like I'm dieting (because I am not) and it was easy. The book itself is very technical but taking the time to read and understand it was totally worth it. This book combine with kitchen matters, whole30 and primal kitchen have helped pave the way with easy, delicious meals. With the investment. I have been able to totally reprogram my body. Saying no to pizza is easy because I don't want it anymore! If you are looking for a game changer. This is it.

So I will update this review, but I have to say I am so thrilled I found this book.Due to a lot of stressful and traumatic life events my weight has been up and down the past 2 years due to stress eating tons of sugar. I found the Whole30 (which I still think is great) which has helped to reset me in the past. However, I haven't been able to successfully recommit to a whole30 despite numerous efforts due to how restrictive it is. So I tried weight watchers which hasn't helped because I'm just too hungry and stressing over every point I'm using. I'd then feel deprived and overeat.Finally this is something that meets halfway. It provides guidelines for how to eat. She discusses smoothies a lot, but this isn't your only option. The smoothie is simply a shortcut and since I don't have quick healthy food options in my neighborhood, this is a great alternative. She promises that you won't feel hungry.Today is my first day drinking a Fab Four smoothie for breakfast. I drank it around 6:30 this morning and 3 hours later I'm genuinely not hungry. Normally I'd start to feel hungry not long after breakfast and need a snack. I'm hoping to make it until noon for lunch. Kelly says meals should keep you satisfied for 4-6 hours.I will update this as the week progresses and see how my weight changes. So excited!Unfortunately after two weeks of drinking these smoothies every day, I'm not really losing any weight. I was super excited for that to happen but it's not. So I guess I will have to find something else 😥

The idea of this book is very good but it is chaotic and difficult to follow. The teenage "Hey, Girlfriend!" language in the book was a bit off-putting. As I said, some good ideas and advice for healthy eating but it needs to be presented in a more organized manner.

Love the book! Debating buying the hard copy. I've already made several smoothies and can't believe how full they actually keep me!

This book is great. I have been eating how the book describes for about a week. I have truly started to feel better. My gut is happy as well as my blood pressure. I need to lose a lot of weight, but my biggest concern is to get healthy. But, with that said, I have lost 5 pounds this week. Thank you for a great book.

This is a great read. I am a nutrition professional myself with 10+ years experience in health and nutrition education. I feel that Kelly did a great job putting science in easy to understand language. I have even recommended this several of my clients.
