I liked the book. I did find some good information and designs. My library is large. I found some design elements in here that taught me a few things. My jewelry skill level is high. I think it fits more for a middle level. I did enjoy the book though. I know I'm hard to please when it comes to jewelry making books. If you want to enjoy a new jewelry making book, this will do just that. Read the details first to make sure this is the type of jewelry making process you want to learn. Like I said I'm hard to please on J-M'g books. I did like the layout of the book. The pics are great. Lot of thought in producing the book as well.

Love the idea of soldering without using a dangerous torch. Don't get me wrong, you can end up with some nasty burns if you don't use the soldering iron with caution, but this technique is not as intimidating as the torches. In addition, you are less likely to melt certain materials, and since the melt point of the solder is way lower, you have more materials to choose from. Since Laura is one of the few artist using a soldering iron, I hope she writes another book on this subject. Truly, tabletop soldering and just as pretty as the other stuff.

This book has a lot of great information about creating jewelry from found objects especially pendants from glass which are soldered. The information on soldering is very detailed so if you are new to soldering with copper tape and lead free solder this would be a fantastic book for you. This method of soldering is similar to stained glass artists. If you have seen the pendants that use two glass slides and a collaged image of some sort, this is the method you would use. I would highly recommend this book to anyone looking for some fresh ideas.

Great book for ideas but is missing essential elements for an instructional book. For example what Watt soldering iron do you need, stating the reader should try different brands and or variety of items can get pricey and I did not find theses suggestions helpful. This is not a book for a beginner.

I have always admired the unique pieces of jewelry this artist makes, so when her book, Boho Chic Jewelry, came out, I had to have it. The step by step instructions are excellent. If someone has never soldered, or foiled, or even used a ring saw, the author explains the processes step by step and even gives her readers warnings and precautions. The instructions for the individual projects are easy to follow and she gives ideas for personalizing the projects. The photographs are crisp and also very helpful when following the instructions. This book is an asset to any artist's collection.

Terrific book. Answered many questions I had about jewelry making with an iron. Excellent details with pictures and explanations. Happy I found this book.

I like this book. Not as good as others I have seen however this does have wonderful jewelry idea's with great pictures and instructions. It really was not what I needed though.

Contained in this set of six postcards are: Self-Portrait in Front of an Easel (1888), Portrait of Patience Escalier (1888), La Mousme' (1888), Vase with Irises (1890), The Bridge at Langois (1888), and Cafe' Terrace at Night (1888).These are tear-out postcards in a small book. I like the fact that they are an appropriate size to send with U.S. postcard postage; larger postcards require U.S. letter postage. For best results, tear carefully and then trim the perforations off with an X-Acto or similar cutting tool.

While the selection of paintings used on these cards is lovely, I was surprised to find some of van Gogh's most famous works omitted. No Starry Night or Sunflowers! This may have been a copyright issue, but if it wasn't it seems like a glaring omission.Anyway, the paintings that are represented are great, and the cards themselves look good too. They are perforated and pretty easy to remove from the book if you remove the staples in the spine. They are surprisingly thick and sturdy for the price and for being postcard book cards. I will be happy to be sending these to friends and pen pals.

Beautiful normal size postcards of Van Gogh, perfect for anyone and any occasion really. Strong material for image and great for writing on the other side. You must notice, it doesn't have the lines ready so you have to make them yourself (no problem ;)). Very happy with this package.

I guess I should have read the reviews for these cards. They don't look like postcards on the back, and Im worried about putting them in the mail. The back is just white, with no split down the middle, and they are a significantly different shape and size than standard postcards.

I love Van Gogh, but these are definitely not the works one would expect. Probably the only ones that were copyright free. Several of the cards are portraits, and I'm not a fan of his portraits.

Very cool postcards! My postcard pen pals enjoyed them!

Unfortunately, these are not really postcards. They should not be advertised as such.

He is a co-author of Clovis Lithic Technology (2011).

Carlson's book covers statistical study in archaeological contexts using the R statistical programming language. R is an open source, free version of the S-Plus language. It has a steep learning curve and can be daunting to people expecting a more GUI oriented approach to statistics. But ... it's free. And over two decades it has become an international standard with thousands of packages dedicated to specific disciplines and implementing routines that are not directly implemented by the primary source. Carlson's book provides a strong background and basic structure of analysis that will benefit many archaeologists, who are often trained to use spreadsheets - shudder - as databases, and innocently trust the canned routines included. QMAUR however, addresses things like examing the data first, plotting and conducting exploratory analysis to detect oddities, errors and outliers that require attention, correction or further treatment. It is a first class work for any archaeologist interested statistics and limited in budget.

If you want a good book about the fabled Ciudad Blanca, read Douglas Preston's "The Lost City of the Monkey God." If you want a book about a whiny New Yorker who is woefully ill prepared for any sort of outdoor adventure and yet somehow thinks it's a good idea to "find himself" on a trek through the dense jungles of Mosquitia, then I guess Jungeland will do.The book is broken down into very short chapter vignettes, alternating between Stewart's trip through the jungle and Theodore Morde's 1940 expedition in search of Ciudad Blanca. At first it's a contrivance that works well, but it quickly becomes annoying, mostly because Stewart neglects to add any real weight to his writing or research. In fact, Stewart fails to realize the biggest issue with Morde's "discovery" of Ciudad Blanca: it was all a farce. Morde and Brown established a gold panning operation on the river and never bothered looking for the famous lost city, and then he fabricated the entire thing on his return to the States, including falsifying his notebooks.That alone wouldn't really be too much of a problem for Jungleland. Instead, what really kills the book is the fact that Stewart spends so much of it whining about how his feet hurt, how hot and sweaty he is, how exhausted he is, and how much he misses his family. I've been on long treks and travels overseas before, and I get all of that. But Stewart takes it to an entirely new level. I wonder if his companions, namely archeology Chris Begley, wished he had just drowned during one of their river crossings.Stewart mentions in the book that he is used to dangerous situations as part of his job. Seeing how much he whined, worried, and complained the whole time, it makes me wonder if the most dangerous thing he's done was walk into a Harlem Starbucks.

This is an ok read but, in the end, disappointing. The life of spy and adventurer Theodore Morde is in itself worth a book and the trek that Stewart takes into Mosquitia (in Morde's footsteps...kinda) should have been exciting. But the way the book is organized (toggling between chapters on Morde and Stewart's own trek) makes it all a bit disjointed. AND, in spite of sickness, hunger, snakes, mosquitoes, and pirates (yes, pirates), Stewart makes his trek surprisingly mundane. The conclusion is also a bit of a letdown, although its mystical punchline could have been profound. [One final note: reading this at a time when the pundits are going crazy about the lack of democracy in Venezuela is interesting. Part of the back story to this book is how a US-backed military coup displaced a popularly elected President, Mel Zelaya, just before Stewart landed in Honduras. This didn't concern too many folks in North America. Zelaya, like Maduro today, represented the poor...seems like it is ok to abandon democracy when it is only the poor who get hurt.]

I read The Lost City of Z a few months before I read Christopher S. Stewartâ€™s Jungleland. I might have appreciated Stewartâ€™s book more if I had read it first, but I donâ€™t believe that doing so would have given me a better impression of Stewart as either an author or an adventurer. Percy Fawcett of Z was at home in the bush, but Stewart was no more at home in the bush than I would be.According to the bookâ€™s jacket, Stewart is a writer and editor with the Wall Street Journal. He became interested in jungle exploring after reading the journal of an adventurer, explorer named Theodore â€œTedâ€ Morde, who explored the wilds of Honduras some 70 years earlier. Wikipedia describes Morde as, â€œ an adventurer, explorer, diplomat, spy, journalist, and television news producer best known for his claim of discovering the "Lost City of the Monkey God" Stewart becomes obsessed with finding the â€œLost City of the Monkey Godâ€ and so he enlists an older man of some experience in the bush named Chris Begley to assist him in his journey. Begley is described as, â€œa real-life Indiana Jones.â€ The book is written in chapters that alternate between Stewartâ€™s story and excerpts from Mordeâ€™s journal.Stewart leaves his wife and young daughter at home in New York, and he and Begley go to Honduras to begin their journey. Descriptions of life in the Honduras jungle border on the bizarre. In one segment, the duo and some local helpers are moving through the wilderness jungle, enduring insect bites, avoiding poisonous snakes and jaguars, when a young native girl, who is carrying a baby, and who is dressed like any young woman in any city in America, and holding an umbrella as protection from the sun, comes down a path toward them. Her picture in the book shows that she is smiling at the weary travelers. Another segment depicts the group as enduring hardships of jungle life, and they finally reach a village, where they listen to a radio to receive the latest news.When Stewart and Begley reach what they assume is the Lost City, one wonders why they went to so much trouble. Stewart would have had a better book if he had just printed Mordeâ€™s journal.

This really is a great title for A very mediocre tale. The author pumps up a modest excursion to a site already well-known to try and come across as a serious researcher. There are a number of other books on the white city presenting serious research,but perhaps it is inappropriate to mention them by name here. A little Googling will serve you well.
